The Toyota brand was introduced into Tanzania by the Karimjee family through International Motor Mart.

The holding company Karimjee Jivanjee Ltd has a long and established history in East Africa stretching back to 1825 when they first arrived as traders from the area of Cutch, in India, to the island of Zanzibar.

International Motor Mart was originally set up as a trading company in 1927 and independently registered in 1942. In the 1950`s it represented American and British motor companies, such as Willys Jeep, Nash Rambler, Commer Trucks and Rootes Group products such as Humber, Hillman, and Sunbeam.

In 1965 the Toyota distributorship was awarded to International Motor Mart. In 2000 International Motors Ltd changed its company name to Toyota Tanzania Ltd.

In 1992 Toyota Tanzania Ltd was appointed as the distributor for Yamaha Motorcycles, which are marketed through the subsidiary company of City Motors Ltd.

In 2013 the Group was appointed the dealer for Case IH Agriculture. We also continue to provide After Sales support for the Daihatsu brand

This expansion in the portfolio has strengthened the company`s ability to offer a wider range of vehicle solutions to different market segments.

2012 saw the launch of Salute Finance Ltd; the new leasing and fleet management arm of Toyota Tanzania.

Future growth will be driven by the organisation`s commitment to the development and training of its Tanzanian employees. Investing in people is and will continue to be an important part of Toyota Tanzania`s philosophy.

In 2015 Toyota Tanzania celebrated its 50th anniversary as the Toyota distributor in Tanzania. To this day we continually strive to deliver customer satisfaction and adapt ourselves to meet our customer's changing and unique needs.

In 2015 the Karimjee Jivanjee Group celebrated its 190th anniversary, founded on values that remain relevant to this day: Honesty, integrity and trust, professionalism and entrepreneurship and humility, virtue and philanthropy.

Operations include:

The importation of new vehicles for the Tanzanian market from Toyota’s facilities in Nagoya, Japan and Durban, South Africa.

The importation of genuine spare parts for the Tanzanian market from Toyota factories in Japan and South Africa.

The servicing & repair of vehicles following the “Kodawari” global after sales service standard.

Believing that there is always a better way to do something is at the heart of Toyota´s philosophy. Even if we have found the solution, we have to continue to challenge and ask how we can improve it or make it better. This is the "Kaizen" way.
